Weekend gone too soon…

August 5th, 2009

Just a short post….

Why are weekends always gone too soon? And the days felt much shorter compared to weekdays. Anyways, dear came to visit for the weekend and as usual, I’m very happy to see him. =) Didn’t really do much except we out for lunch and to the mall as I needed to stock up on some toiletries.

We went to one of my fave cafe for lunch, Eastern Creative Recipe….

Our food….yum yum :P

Us posing with our food

The bf’s going back to the UK soon …. T_T and won’t be back till next year CNY….*sobz* T_T Wonder how I’m going to survive…but I know I will, coz I just have to. *sigh*

Outfit of the day:

Floral Dress: Imported, from Rose Cottage online boutique
Pink Cardigan: Hong Kong
Bangles: Gold bangle from H&M, Hong Kong
Silver bangle from Miss Selfridge

I love the floral dress I’m wearing….a highly sought after design by floral lovers, hehe. Am happy I managed to finally grab hold of it.

I’m looking forward to the long weekend, yippee! Will be going down to KL for a one-day trip and meeting zhi mui for breakfast & shopping. =) And of course, not forgetting my bf.

New Loves

July 29th, 2009

Sorry that the previous post was a lil’ depressing but well, here’s a brighter post. As my parents were in town, we went out to Orchard for a bit of shopping. *yay* I have avoided going to Orchard since June as it’s a really, really “evil” place - makes me wanna spend the moolah. :P But since mum’s around, it’s an excuse to go there and we wanted to check out the newly opened ION Orchard.

The minute we entered the mall, I was attracted to a new shoe store called Rubi as they displayed a wide variety of colourful ballet flats right at the front. Both mum & I got a pair of flats from there, hehe. And I actually went back to get another pair of pumps (picture below). :P Went into the new Topshop outlet and I saw a floral jumpsuit which I almost bought….*sigh* Expensive..and I need to save for my trip to BKK.

Presenting to you my new loves….

Cute pumps from Rubi Shoes, part of the Cotton On group

Floral zipper dresses! *finally*
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on these but they’re forever sold out from blog shops.

And I was at Topshop recently searching for some goodies since they’re having sales. I scoured from one Topshop to another, from Raffles City to Suntec, but settled in with my purchases from the outlet at Marina Square as they’re having an additional 10% discount promo with more than 2 sales items, whheeeee! =)

I’m a very, very berry happy gurl…*tee hee* =D

Now that my shopping kick has been satisfied, I shall retreat back to my ‘cave’ and ban myself from retail therapy for the next few months. Wish me luck! Till then, have a good weekend everyone.

A sombre weekend

July 27th, 2009

A shocker came via an SMS last Thursday morning. I got the news from my eldest cousin that his dad has passed away that very morning. I was at work when I received the SMS and I vaguely remembered I was in the midst of planning for the weekend when the news came in. I was stunned for a while but immediately called my parents to inform them. Late in the afternoon on the same day, mum called to say they’ll be coming over on Friday. Uncle was cremated at Mandai on Saturday morning, a very emotional moment for everyone who was present.

I haven’t seen this uncle for a long, long time. I think the last time was probably during my cousin’s wedding which was probably about 10 years ago. I remember him as a nice uncle as my family used to put up with him & my aunt whenever we visited SG. And it’s really sad that the next time I see him, he’s already passed on.

The other sad news was the passing of creative director/producer, Yasmin Ahmad. One of her outstanding work, ‘Sepet’ will remain as one of the most memorable movie I’ve ever watched. Her TV commercials on racial harmony & unity (muhibah themed) always moved me and I’m pretty sure many will agree on that. Malaysia has indeed lost a truly remarkable woman, which has inspired many people out there with her work.

May you rest in peace, Uncle Yeo & Yasmin Ahmad. You will be dearly missed.

Birthday Celebration @ Asian Kitchen, Iluma

June 26th, 2009

My 2nd outing for the week was yesterday night with the Murdoch gang to have dinner cum birthday celebration for Jith and Karen. We met at Asian Kitchen at this new shopping mall in Bugis, Iluma. I only went there once to watch “Wolverine” at their cineplex, Film Garde.

Some group pictures of the gang….

Karen, Sarah, Mel, Jith, Fel & Rachel
We ordered some ala carte dishes to go with rice. The dishes were not too bad despite the limited choices available on the menu.

The dishes we ordered….

After dinner, Sarah surprised both the birthday girl and guy with their cakes: home made (with love) cheesecake by Sarah herself. Don’t they look good? *drools*

Lemon & Oreo Cheesecake

Happy belated birthday, Jith & Karen

We each had a small slice of the cakes and they were just so good. After that, we made our way to Coffee Bean for dessert & coffee. We felt really stuffed after dinner so we only ordered an apple crumble and creme brulee to share.

Chatting over desserts @ Coffee Bean

Jith gave us all a headache after he started questioning us the names of streets/places in Perth, just to test if we could remember. And most of us couldn’t remember the names…gosh! I couldn’t believe it myself either. :P A sign of old age, sigh….

And because of that, revenge time came when we presented his present to him. :P A jigsaw puzzle card, hehe. Mel took out every single piece before presenting it to him and Jith had to assembled them infront of us in order to see what’s written on it.

Jith cracking his head over his gift

It took him about 10-15mins to finally get it right, hehe. With that, it ended our night and we headed for home.

Dinner and Live Music @ Timbre, Arts House

June 25th, 2009

I know I’ve been missing in action for quite some time. Gomenasai. Well, I haven’t took much photos from my outings here in SG but I’m back, nonetheless. :P I was out for dinner with Mel and Joanne on Tuesday. I met a new friend, Alexis, who works at Michelin (huge company k?).

We met at Raffles MRT and walked towards Timbre@Arts House, this alfresco restaurant-cum-bar situated near Boat Quay which has a new view of the river. And the SG Riverfest was going on as well throughout this week.

Mel made a booking earlier and we managed to get a table without a fuss. Food choice was pretty simple which consists of finger food & pizzas, but they had a wide range of pizzas. We ended up ordering 2 pizzas (Greek & Roasted Duck), buffalo wings and a mixed seafood platter to share. They have a wide range of drinks too ranging from alcoholic to non-alcoholic. I just ordered a cranberry juice that night.

Greek Pizza - yums!

At approximately 8.30pm, the live bands started playing and that’s when things started to become really, really noisy. We could hardly hear each other after that, lol.

What’s a dinner outing without us cam-whoring right? :P

And finally, a group shot….

We didn’t realize the time and had actually been there till about 10plus. We made a move shortly after and walked back to the MRT station. Overall, I enjoyed the place. Timbre is a nice place to have some pub grub and listen to live band with good company. I will be back for sure.

‘No Boundaries’ for Kris Allen, winner of American Idol Season 8!

May 21st, 2009

Double YAY to Allenation!?! Woo-hoo!?!

Today’s a happy day for me as my favourite contestant on AI, Kris Allen, has been crowned the new winner for Season 8! I’ve been supporting him from the start of the season. You can call him whatever; the guy next door, the dark horse, etc but yet, he emerged as the winner beating Adam Lambert who is a hot favourite of the judges. Personally, I do feel that the judges were being biased this year by making this season appear to be ‘The Adam Lambert Show’ and the other contestants as mere guest artistes. *rolls eyes*

But nevertheless, I’m very happy for Kris and he definitely deserved to win. Week after week, Kris delivered awesome performances by interpreting the songs into his own style. Some of his memorable performances were ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’, ‘Heartless’, and ‘Falling Slowly’. He’s really, really talented as well having performed with the acoustic guitar and the piano.

I know ‘Glambert’ fans kept lashing out at Kris but heck! Wake up people! America voted for the winner so please embrace it. Kris Allen totally ROX and he totally mesmerized the crowd with his acoustic guitar performances week after week. His interpretation of ‘No Boundaries’ was way better than Adam’s as well. Adam has been a fantastic performer throughout the season and I’m sure he’ll have bright future ahead of him as well.

Here’s wishing Kris the best of luck and I’ll be waiting to buy his debut album. =)

IJC-ians gathering at City Hall

April 29th, 2009

Last Friday after work, I met up with several IJCians at City Hall for a gathering. Gosh, there were a few of them which I haven’t seen in ages; namely Michelle & Kelly! We expected more people but some couldn’t make it at the last minute so there were a total of 7 of us. And then came a surprise guest all the way from KL - Sonia - who was down in SG for a business trip. Which then makes it to 8 in total.

After much deliberation, we made our way to this ‘char chan teng’ place at Raffles City (can’t remember the name) for our dinner. I had the cheese baked rice with fish which was alright, nothing too spectacular though. It was the company that mattered most. It was good fun catching up with the girls and I agree with Michelle that we need to make an effort to meet up once in a while.

Sin Dee, me & Sonia

IJCians Gathering @ Raffles City

After some cam-whoring sessions, we headed to this kopitiam at CityHall for after-dinner drinks. The group became smaller then as Ling Huey had to leave early.

We were there till about 10plus before accompanying Sonia back to her hotel. We took a couple more group shots there before leaving. A girl’s night out is always good fun & I’m looking forward to the next one! :)

SG Food Venture: Ayam Penyet Ria

April 18th, 2009

After reading so much of reviews of this restaurant, I decided to try it out together with Sin Dee, her bf & KC at their Lucky Plaza outlet. Ayam Penyet Ria is an Indonesian restaurant with franchises in Indonesia and now, Singapore. It is so popular, that it has two outlets in Lucky Plaza alone, and a couple more across the island. When we got there, we had to queue for some time before we could be seated.

The house specialty item was obviously the ayam penyet. It is an authentic Indonesian dish of chicken that is deliberately smashed with a wooden mallet after deep-frying. The chicken had been deep-fried to a golden yellow and was very crispy on the outside. Additional bits of fried batter had been tossed into the dish for good measure. There were also some greens; kangkung, cucumber & cabbage; and a chunk of fried tofu & tempe.

Gosh, this picture makes me drool…. :P

The spicy chilli sauce was a real kick that I finished every last bit of it & Sin Dee wanted more, haha! Very addictive and went very well with the chicken, yum! As a fan of chicken dishes, I give this a thumbs up and would definitely go back for more.

You can also opt for the Empal Penyet (smashed beef), Ikan Bawal Penyet (smashed pomfret), Sop Buntut (oxtail soup), Soto Ayam (chicken soto) or Rawon (beef soup surabaya). With an affordable price at $5,00 - $6,00, it is an inexpensive alternative to other restaurants in the vicinity. On that note, there’s also Waroeng Penyet in Malaysia which I have yet to try…. *sigh* Not sure when I’ll be able to visit KL again.
